NOTE: as of March 14, 02026, a version of this email has been shared with like-minded institutions, including futurists, foresight practitioners, kaiju-themed publications, and known goofballs. We are publishing it here for transparency. Please feel free to share with like-minded colleagues.

Dear [NAME],

We are writing to you because, based on your work, we are making an assumption that our interests may be aligned. These interests include:

  • Building just and equitable futures
  • Godzilla and other Kaiju
  • Climate Justice
  • Storytelling
  • Rigorous and highly scientific research

We are a team of researchers and artists working on a Very Serious™ research mission asking what the Godzilla franchise can teach us about love, mutual trust and collaboration, anti-facism, the world, and ourselves. We believe that the lessons uncovered in our research will help us and others build just and equitable futures that work for all living beings. This mission is officially known as Mission Kaiju_Love_Care_Futures_02026.

You can learn more about our work and the goals of our mission at The Godzilla Papers: the mission’s public-facing knowledge repository. This contains:

  1. Research Methodology (useful for potential funders and collaborators)
  2. Field Reports (initial findings from our ongoing artifact review)
  3. Press Releases
  4. Public Mission Correspondence

Our purpose for reaching out is three-fold. We are hoping to:

  • Find like-minded artists, scholars, futurists, weirdos, and goofballs with whom we might collaborate, specifically to transform lessons outlined in the Mission’s Field Reports into visual, audio, or other pieces of art that show what our shared future (20, 50, 100 years from now...) might look like if we were to act on the teachings of the Godzilla franchise as they relate to love, mutual trust and collaboration, anti-facism, the world, and ourselves. Examples of these lessons include:

    • Time and space are big, we are small

    • Trust the people closest to the work

    • Experimentation is worthwhile

    • Even bad people have a right to live (while this is a direct quote from Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), we acknowledge there is work to be done to dismantle the false good/bad binary here.)

  • Build awareness of our mission and the public-facing knowledge repository

  • Build relationships with potential Mission Patrons who might help us make this mission more financially viable

As a multidisciplinary team, we acknowledge that values alignment is crucial for any collaborative effort. We hope our values and commitments resonate with you and your network:

  • We believe that mischief is a political act.
  • We believe that love is an action, as articulated by bell hooks.
  • We are anti-fascist
  • We will never use AI in our art, work, or processes
  • Knowledge should be treated as a public good
  • None of us knows everything, together we know a lot

We would love your support and partnership in spreading awareness, and—if you have the capacity—we would love to collaborate. As of March, 02026, we have created the following avenues for engagement:

If you have suggestions or ideas for collaboration that aren’t listed here, please feel free to share them with us at thegodzillapapers@gmail.com..

We have also attached an informational flyer that we hope—if our values and goals are aligned—you will consider sharing with your networks via printed materials or digital distribution. Feel free to forward this email to anyone that might be interested.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours in Science,
